The role of a taxi driver can be both challenging and enjoyable. Some interesting research has been carried out by Zego and we thought that we would share some of the data from that research.

How many of us actually enjoy our work? Well, 35% of taxi drivers claim to do so according to the research with only 2% not enjoying their role. Does that data surprise you?

On average, a taxi driver will do around 46.500 miles every year driving passengers from one location to another. We are sure that you will agree that is an awful lot of miles when you consider that he or she will no doubt also make many personal journeys as well such as trips to the shops, going on holiday and visiting friends and relatives.

So, what do taxi drivers enjoy most about being a taxi driver? Well, it is meeting new members of the public – 63% of taxi drivers said they enjoyed that. There will be some passengers who do not like to enter into a conversation with the taxi driver when being transported around but there will be other people who enjoy having a chat.

Apparently, 24% of taxi drivers enjoyed the flexibility of the working hours with 52% of taxi drivers working some of their hours through the night and some of their hours during the day time. 34% of drivers work during the daytime whilst 14% operate their taxis during the night.

Taxi drivers tend to make a number of trips to and from airports. On average, he or she makes around 216 trips to and from airports each year dropping off and picking up holidaymakers and people making overseas business trips.

Taxi drivers are obviously fond of a cup of tea as they drink an average of 5 cups of tea each day.

On the negative side of a taxi driver’s business, they do come across some aggressive passengers with this occurring an average of 21 times over a 12 month period. Another concerning statistic is that 52% of taxi drivers have come across passengers trying to avoid paying their fare.
