It may not come as a surprise to taxi drivers to read that the time may come when some customers will be able to board a flying taxi to transport them quickly from one part of a city to another or to travel a certain distance in the air from one town to another. In fact, it is being predicted that in 2024 flying taxis will be providing commercial flights in some parts of the world and that there will be 430,000 flying taxis operating worldwide by 2040.

The electric vertical take off and landing flying taxis (eVTOL) may be capable of carrying say 4 passengers. The flying taxi may have a 150mile range and reach a speed of anything up to 200 mph.

Obviously, this would involve quite a lot of ‘mini-airports” being built in numerous locations but it sounds like it could provide many much needed jobs both within the construction industry and to pilot the flying taxis. It will be interesting to find out in due course how much it would cost to obtain a suitable license etc to operate a flying taxi service.

Presumably, the fare that a passenger would have to pay to use such a mode of transport may be significantly higher than to use a conventional taxi that transports someone by road so it will be interesting to find out how much flying taxis will impact on the business of a road bound taxi service.

One of the potential advantages could be the ability to get from A to B rapidly as flying taxis are presumably not going to get caught up in traffic jams that normal taxis are faced with almost on a daily basis.

Apparently, Coventry has been earmarked to be the first location in the UK to build a complex for flying taxis to land and take off. We will continue to keep our readers updated with regard to this potential new mode of passenger transport.
