If you are a taxi driver you will be spending an awful lot of time driving around in your taxi picking up and dropping off your passengers. Over the last few days we have seen very hot weather here in the UK over an extended period of time. It is quite likely that we will see similar temperatures in the future due in part to global warming. So what sorts of things should you consider doing when the weather is hot?

Well, you need to make sure that you have enough coolant in your engine to help stop your car overheating. Also check the oil level and also the windscreen washer tank. It is important that the tyre pressure is at the right level for a number of reasons.

Hopefully, your car will have come equipped with air conditioning but do get it looked over to make sure that it is performing as it should and produces an excellent supply of very cool air into the taxi. This will prove of huge benefit to both you and your passengers.

Make sure that you carry a good supply of fluids to drink periodically throughout the day such as water. You might also like to offer your passengers a bottle of water to help keep them cool especially on long journeys such as some airport transfers. Doing this could create an awful lot of goodwill for you leading to increased business in the future.

Whilst you are on the road do try and take regular stops to take a drink and make sure that you have something to eat. Tempting as it is, you probably don’t need the windows down on your taxi when driving around if you have the air conditioning on as you will be surprised just how much hot air comes in through the window from outside.

Hot temperatures can make some people sleepy. Do not drive if that is happening to you. It is not worth the risk. Pull over for a while and have a nap. Whilst driving consider going at a slightly slower speed than normal.

Be conscious of pedestrians on the roadside who may not be their normal selves due to the hot weather. You don’t want someone to suddenly step out into the road in front of you.
