As a taxi driver, one of your largest expenses is possibly the amount you spend on putting fuel in the tank of your taxi. You no doubt do many miles a year transporting passengers about especially if you do a large number of airport transfers. So, is there anything that you could do to potentially lower the amount you spend on petrol or diesel?

Unfortunately, fuel prices on forecourts here in the UK, Europe and the Rest of the World are extremely high at the moment with petrol costing over 170p a litre and diesel costing almost £2.00 a litre. Therefore, anything that you can do to contain or lower the amount you spend on fuel has got to b welcomed.

We mention just a few of the things you could do to help lower how much you spend on fuel.

For instance, shop around for the cheapest fuel in your area but if you have a long trip planned in your taxi then do some research to hopefully identify a petrol station on route that is as cheap as possible.

Make sure that the tyre pressure is at the correct level as if, for instance, the pressure is too low you may end up using more fuel than you really need to.

Unless it is really hot then consider turning off the air conditioning in your taxi if you have no passengers on board as this may help you lower the amount of fuel that you use.

Make sure that you have your taxi serviced on a regular basis as this should help with conserving fuel consumption. Make sure that the oil is replaced periodically.

When driving make sure that you do not accelerate rapidly to get from 0mph to 60mph in 6 seconds. It is more fuel efficient to pull away at a steady speed and build up speed gradually. Avoid travelling at 70mph on the motorway as motoring along at a lower speed is likely to help you save on fuel costs.

Much as it may be easier to drive a taxi with an automatic gearbox, they are not as fuel-efficient as a car with a manual gearbox assuming you drive in the correct gear.
