If you are in London, whether that is because you reside there or because you are perhaps visiting a show in the West End, then there are various modes of transport at your disposal. For Instance, you could use your own car, a red double decker bus, train, tube, taxi or rickshaw.

Rickshaws have certainly grown in prominence in the last few years often being seen in the likes of the West End picking up and/or dropping off people who may be going to a show. They are also used by people to transport them from say a tube station to an event in the capital such as to the Chelsea Flower Show.

A rickshaw often looks very appealing when it is decorated with coloured lights at night and it has music playing at a reasonable sound level. In fact, the writer of this post once hired a rickshaw in Oxford Street, London to transport himself and his wife to the London Coliseum to watch the ballet in an evening. Yes- it felt so special but we did feel that if we were to be involved in a road traffic accident we were rather exposed and could be injured.

So, which is safer – travelling in a rickshaw or a taxi in London?

Well, a black London cab certainly looks safer in view of the way it is constructed than a rickshaw. If a cab were hit by another vehicle, whether the collision is either with one of the two sides of the vehicle or the front or back of the cab there is probably more chance of surviving and walking away from the accident without any physical injury than if you were sitting in a rickshaw that was hit by say a car.

Of course, there is the potential novelty of being driven around the capital in a rickshaw. You will no doubt get lots of envious looks from passers by that would not be forthcoming if you made the trip in a black London cab. Obviously, the decision as to which mode of transport you use is your own personal one.
