You may find it of interest to read that, according to data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of new cars built here in the UK in September 2023 increased by 39.8% in September 2023 when compared to the same month last year.

In September 2022, the number of new cars manufactured in the UK amounted to 63,125 whereas in September 2023 the figure was 88,230. We are sure that you will agree that is a large increase and let us hope that the pattern continues over the next few months and beyond.

There were 23,503 new cars built in September this year for the home market with this being 65.9% more than the same month last year. There were 64,727 new cars built for export with this being 32.2% more.

On a year to date basis to September 2023, there were 659,901 new cars built in the UK with this being 14.9% more than for the same period to September 2022. 9.8% more cars were built for the home market and 16.3% more cars manufactured for the export market.

It is interesting to hear that the number of new electric cars built in the UK rose by over 40%. This just shows how much interest is being shown in electric vehicles. Let us hope that we see more public charging points being put in place to cope with the increase in numbers of such vehicles being see on our roads.
